Stress Disorder
You may be wondering if the symptoms you have been experiencing are symptoms of
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Here is a quick self-test you can take to learn more about the symptoms and whether or not you might be experiencing PTSD.
The symptoms we include in the questionnaire are based on the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition or DSM-IV. This is the manual that mental health providers use to determine whether or not their patients have a particular disorder.
To be considered post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), symptoms should be lasting one month or longer (but if you are having upsetting symptoms, you should still consider talking to your doctor or another healthcare provider). Additionally, your symptoms would be interfering with normal activities: routines, work or school, and/or social activities.
